We may not have yet perfected a time machine whose dials we can set to go to a chosen time in history, but we do have machines that make it possible to experience a taste of time travel.
They're called airplanes! More specifically, jets.
I am always entertained when I fly from one Spiral Whirled Travel HQ to the other. From Colombo, Sri Lanka (hint: vacation idea for you!) to Los Angeles, California, I travel halfway around the world in about 24 hours of flying time (not counting stops to switch planes or enjoy a layover). But if I look at my departure and arrival times, it seems like I travelled there in half the number of hours, and sometimes even seem to arrive before I left!
But that's not the only way to travel in time....
While the quantum physicists are working on more ways we can experience real time travel, we at Spiral Whirled Travels have vacation ideas based on more imaginative ways for you to immerse yourself in the past while traveling.
Every place has a history, but sites that have protected through historic preservation give you more of a chance to experience the past.
Some places let you walk in the footsteps of those who have gone before us all, and marvel at great structures:
Other historic sites have been preserved or restored so well that when you go inside, you can really imagine being part of the royal court of The Palace at Versailles or The Forbidden City, perhaps mourning or paying tribute at the Taj Mahal.
Historical Re-enactment can be merely watched or you can become a participant. Many tourist attractions offer cultural shows performed by people in period costumes to give you an idea of the local history.
Events like a Renaissance Festival, or those organized by Victorian Societies or Civil War buffs give you a chance to enjoy some role playing fun...with varying levels of historical accuracy.
Time travel has long been a fascination for Sci Fi fans as well as history buffs, and opens up a whole world of storytelling possibilities for creative writing. Alternate History starts in real historical periods, but then branches off into their own alternate timelines with fictional events and characters to enjoy.
There are possibilities for interactive games and role playing here too-- at places like Steampunk conventions and LARPs (Live Action Role Playing games).
But if you're the type who likes to watch, there is plenty of time travel fiction to keep you entertained and traveling the history of the world, with movies, television series, and even video games. The historical fun never needs to end!
